Interesting facts about me

I'm an avid fan of 'old' comedies e.g. Laurel & Hardy, George Formby, Dad's Army, Norman Wisdom, the Carry On films, It Ain't Half Hot Mum and Only Fools & Horses. I'm a member of the Dad's Army Appr. Society and go to D.A.A.S events to meet the surviving actors and visit locations in Norfolk/Suffolk to view where the series was filmed. I also like tracking down any vehicles that appeared in the series & feature film.

The main vehicle stars were already located e.g. The 1935 Fordson used as Jones butcher's van is at the Patrick Automotive Museum, Kings Norton, and hodges 1939 Bedford K type van is still the property of Mrs Mulley of Bardwell, Also the 1935 Leyland Fire Engine, 'Bertha' traction engine & 'Boxer' Steam Roller are located at Bressingham Museum, Diss.

But the other vehicle bit players had to be tracked down, so using vehicle clubs, DVLA (for forwarding mail), reading books, D.A.A.S. , David Webbers Dad's Army A-Z, talking to actors, newspaper archive etc I tracked down therse vehicles:-
Dad's Army (TV) vehicles :- 1932 Hillman Minx 'Time on my Hands', 1929 Lanchester Straight 8 Laudaulet 30hp 'The Honourable Man', 1925 Austin 7 convertable 'The Desperate Drive of L/Cpl Jones', Austin 8 Military type 2 seater tourer 'Thec Making of Private Pike', 1939 Rolls Royce 'The Captains Car' , 1934 Rolls Royce 'The Captains Car', 1930 Rolls Royce Phantom 2 Barrel tourer 'Is There Honey Still For Tea?', 1931 Gilford AS6 20 seat coach (awaiting restoration) 'Everybody's Trucking', 1936 Brough Superior 1150cc & sidecar ' Round & Round Went the Great Big Wheel', the Big Wheel was made by N. Harrison at Elsree, but has sadly been scrapped, 1941 Matchless G3l 350cc 'The Honourable Man', 1933 Saddle Tank Train Engine (under restoration, Chatham) 'The Royal Train',1902 Aveling & Porter Steam Road Roller 'Museum Piece' & the Wellerhaus Mech. Pipe Organ 'Everybody's Trucking'.

I've also tracked down most of the feature film vehicles ;- Bedford WLG lorry,Shelvoke & Dewry Dustcart, Ford AAF 13cwt Van (Jones Butcher van), Wallis 7 Steevens Steam Roller, and the Germans Mercedes staff car,

There is only a few left to find, one being a 1945 BSA M21 motorbike & sidecar regd. JVB54. Also seen a couple of times on the funny TV series 'On the Buses' and the 'Nuns car' Regd looks like CCG 853 , might be an Austin or Ford seen in 'Gorilla Warfare'.. Any info. 01256 356869
